Nov 02, 2017 I have a 2010 iMac running Office 2008 with Sierra and am getting ready to buy a new iMac. An Apple s/w tech told me that Office 2008 is not compatible with HS and one option is to get a license for Office 365 for Mac. Is this the case, and what might be my other options for word processing.

*Jul 25, 2012 The guys and gals in Redmond have confirmed that both the 2011 and 2008 versions of Office are indeed fully compatible with the newly-released OS X Mountain Lion.

You can use both Office 2011 and Office 2016 at the same time. However it's recommended to have only one Outlook identity open at a time.
OS X Compatibility
Office for Mac 2016 requires Yosemite 10.10.
Office 2011 runs under Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan and Sierra.
Office 2008 runs under Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan. There are a few minor quirks under Mavericks and higher. While the Office 2008 apps will open in Sierra, you will get crashes and unexpected behavior. Not recommended for Sierra. Office 2008 is End of Life software. It will receive no further updates.
Office for Mac 2004 is a PowerPC app and will not run under Lion or newer. Runs under Snow Leopard. Office 2004 is End of Life software. It will receive no further updates.
Office for Mac X is a PowerPC app and will not run under Lion or newer. Runs under Snow Leopard and older versions of OS X. Office X is End of Life software. It will receive no further updates.
